Two Outfits with the Frank & Eileen Belfast English Peacoat

I talk a lot about the value of having a variety of jackets to your wardrobe to make putting outfits together easy and fun. I like to call them completer pieces because they are what pulls an outfit together and makes it look finished and intentional, and I might have found the most comfortable one yet!

Belfast English Peacoat in Triple Fleece (S) // Patrick Popover Henley in Heritage Jersey (S) // Derry F&E Signature Jean in 2001 Wash (30)

I just added the Belfast English Peacoat to my fall wardrobe, and it is equal parts cozy and polished. Inspired by the English-peacoat, it has a double breasted design with horn buttons, notched lapels, and a statement collar. But it’s also made with Frank & Eileen’s signature 100% cotton triple fleece fabric, so it’s easy to layer over your favorite tees and button-up shirts and comfortable to wear all day.

It has a stretchy fit and scrunchable sleeves, with roomy patch pockets, and I love how the raw edges add texture to my casual looks. The Belfast English Peacoat runs true to size, or size down if in between. I have the small.

I styled this jacket two ways for this post, and I’m also planning to wear it over some of the plain t-shirts I have in my closet. First, I wore it over a white popover henley with jeans and sneakers.

The Patrick Popover Henley is Frank & Eileen’s best-selling preppy tee to pop on and go. I love how the collared v-neck adds a sporty vibe to my casual looks, and it’s a bit more elevated than a regular t-shirt.

This tee is made in California with their 100% Cotton Heritage Jersey fabric, and it has a lovely lived-in feel to it that gets softer with every wash. It’s designed for a slightly cropped, relaxed fit with a straight cut raw hem; and it runs true to size. I have the small. It pairs perfectly with these slim straight ankle jeans.

I love my Galway Gaucho Jeans so much that I decided to try another Frank & Eileen denim style, so I ordered their Derry F&E Signature Jean, also made with their Italian Dream Denim. This fabric is a blend of 81% Cotton, 11% Lyocell, 6% EME, 2% Elastane that’s woven in Italy, and when they say it feels like butter, they aren’t wrong. These are easily the most comfortable jeans I own.

The Derry has a flattering slim straight fit with a 27″ ankle-length inseam and a hand-cut raw hem with a 12″ leg opening. The contour waistband sits just below your natural waistline (they have an 11″ rise), and I also like how they have a more polished hook-and-bar closure.

You all know that I’m a denim snob, and I promise you, these jeans are worth the hype. They’re soft and stretchy, but they hold their shape beautifully. Plus, they’re beautiful. They use a small batch stone washing process that gives each pair of jeans a unique look that will evolve and fade over time.

Fit Tip: These jeans run small, as indicated on the website. I have the Gaucho Jeans in the 29, but I needed the 30 in the Derry.

I also styled the Belfast English Peacoat over a denim button-up, and this time I went with a pair of black straight ankle pants for a polished look that you might wear to the office or even out to dinner for a casual evening.

Eileen Relaxed Button-Up Shirt in Vintage Stonewashed Indigo (M) // Derry Illusion Pull-On Pant (29) // Belfast English Peacoat (S)

Black and denim is a classic pairing, and I was surprised how easily the Belfast English Peacoat fit over this relaxed button-up denim shirt. In fact, this is the shirt that started it all! (For those who are new to the brand, Frank & Eileen was born in 2009 when former engineer Audrey McLoghlin sought to reinvent the button-up for women.)

Eileen is still their #1 best seller, with the signature bust-flattering button placement and hand-distressed raw shirttail hem. It’s shaped like a circle with soft rounded shoulders and no back pleat, for a classic yet decidedly feminine fit. I sized up to a medium in this shirt, for a more oversized look, although I could probably wear a small.

And these Derry Illusion Pull-On Pants are a similar style to the jeans I’m wearing above, but they’re a pull-on style with no pockets, zippers, or buttons to fuss with. They have a 27.5″ inseam, 10.25″ front rise, and 13″ leg opening; and the slim-straight fit contours your hips and lifts you in all the right places.

Best of all, these pants go with pretty much every shoe you own, making them a classic and versatile wardrobe staple you can have for years. They’re also great for travel.
